Bio
Chen-Yi Wu is a Taiwanese artist based in Philadelphia, USA. Drawing from a diverse background in literature, theater, and filmmaking, she explores the intricate interplay of different media in her storytelling. Working primarily with image and text, her practice spans documentary filmmaking, photography, illustration, and critical writing. Her work often engages with questions of identity, memory, and cross-cultural experience, with a particular focus on the Asian diaspora. Through both visual and written forms, she seeks to create spaces for reflection, dialogue, and connection across communities.
Artist Statement
I work across image and text, moving between documentary filmmaking, photography, illustration, and writing as interconnected forms of inquiry. My practice extends beyond personal creation into teaching, film festival programming, and collaborations with writing platforms and nonprofit organizations, where I engage with how stories are shaped and shared across different audiences.
Across these roles, I remain most invested in the relationship between the individual and the social world. I see storytelling as a way to trace how personal experience is shaped by broader structures, and as a means of opening space for dialogue across cultural and disciplinary boundaries.
